CALEDONIA, Miss. (WTVA) — The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) broke ground on a new natural gas plant in Lowndes County.
TVA’s new natural gas-powered combustion turbine power plant will be built near Caledonia.
It will power a quarter million homes and create nearly 200 new jobs.
The nation’s largest public energy provider spent $800 million on industrial equipment at the 145-acre site.
The new facility’s six units will add about 500 megawatts to the grid.
“This is all about growing energy infrastructure, unleashing American energy and helping to grow jobs and prosperity in the area,” TVA CEO Don Moul explained.
Roger Waldrep of TVA added, “They operate really fast and really clean. They’ll go from offline to full load in 5 to 7 minutes, so we can react fast to low changes and various demands.”
The project will create 185 new jobs, and construction should be finished by May 2028.
