After Trump Bragged About His “Gold” Oval Office, A Fox News Host Asked If It’s Actually From Home Depot

President Donald Trump addressed the theory that his golden office motifs are Home Depot plastic painted gold.

Trump has happily hyped up his personal mission of bedazzling the White House in the thousand years that have taken place since he took office in January. In April, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had enlisted his “gold guy” to “add custom-made gold finishes to the Oval Office, including gilded carvings for the fireplace mantel and the molding that wraps around the most famous office in the world, administration officials said.”

There’s only one problem: The motifs bear an uncanny resemblance to polyurethane applique made by Ekena Millwork that retails for $58.07 at Home Depot.

Thus, it was initially business as usual when Fox News’ Laura Ingraham took a recent tour of the Oval Office, where he boasted, “You can’t imitate gold. There’s no paint that imitates gold.”

However, in the new clip, Laura then explicitly asked whether the accents were actually from the store. He replied, “No, this is not Home Depot stuff. This is not Home Depot.”

BuzzFeed actually reached out to Ekena Millwork, the company that makes the appliques sold to Home Depot (and other retailers) back in August. In response, they replied, “We work with several design firms in DC that have worked on the White House and believe these could be our onlays.”
