Duke Energy officials are warning customers about a text
scam related to power outages and freezing conditions.
The company confirms they are aware of the text message and
advises people not to click on the link or download any attachments from
businesses or people they don’t know.
The text message sent to customers says, “Scheduled Rolling
Power Outages Effective 11PM – By Zip Codes and Time. Will remain in effect to
Tuesday January 27th due to freeze conditions.” The message asks the user to tap a link for more details.
Duke Energy said they will communicate grid conditions
through their official communication channels and if you have any direct
questions about your account, you should contact them directly.
