Duke Energy urges customers to cut energy use on Feb. 2 from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. due to extreme cold affecting the grid, aiming to prevent power outages.
NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Duke Energy is asking customers to voluntarily reduce their energy use from the hours of 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2.
The weather and extreme cold is putting a lot of pressure on the grid, Duke Energy said. Reducing energy use will diminish the threat of power outages, according to Duke Energy.
- Lower your thermostat to the lowest comfortable setting
- Don’t use major appliances like washing machines, dryers and dishwashers
- Turn off unnecessary devices
- Charge electric vehicles midday
“We know it’s inconvenient to reduce electric use, but it makes a real difference.” said Gerald Wilson, Duke Energy vice president of grid operations.
