Lansing — The Michigan Senate voted Tuesday to increase more than 20 hunting and fishing license fees in a move supporters said would stabilize funding for the Department of Natural Resources by creating an estimated $20 million in new revenue.
The Democratic-led Senate omitted the proposals, which particularly raise costs for out-of-state visitors, from its tentative agenda for the day. One GOP lawmaker, Sen. Ed McBroom of Vulcan, who described the price hikes as “shameful,” said he didn’t realize that they would be considered until the first bill was put up for a vote.
