Wisconsin DNR marks Forest Products Week, highlighting $41B industry impact | State news

MADISON (WKOW) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is celebrating Forest Products Week from Oct. 19–25, recognizing the people and industries that sustain the state’s 17 million acres of forested land.

Wisconsin’s forest products industry generates $27 billion in goods each year and supports more than 56,000 jobs, according to DNR data. The total economic impact tops $41 billion statewide, with about 1,000 companies involved in forest products and another 250 in logging and forestry support.

The state has led the nation in papermaking for more than 70 years. Officials say sustainable forestry practices ensure Wisconsin’s forests remain healthy and productive while helping offset climate change by storing carbon.

“Through responsible forestry, we provide economic, social and ecological benefits today and for future generations,” said Carmen Hardin, director of the DNR’s Applied Forestry Bureau.
