Ameren Missouri said customers needed to conserve electricity Saturday morning due to high demand and weather conditions, according to a news release.
Ameren canceled the request at 11 a.m. Saturday.
“Due to current system conditions, MISO requests for energy conservation have ended as of now,” Ameren said in a news release. “We appreciate your conservation efforts as we worked with our regional grid operator to minimize impact and ensure the stability of the electric grid. We are continuing to monitor conditions as well as the need for any potential calls for energy conservation over the coming days.”
While Ameren canceled its official request, the Columbia Water and Light Department is still asking residents to reduce electricity use during this weekend as it is a high-demand period, according to a post on X. The department said this will help keep the heat going for everyone.
According to the news release, Ameren is also taking steps to help customers by activating available demand response programs for customers who have an agreement with Ameren to limit energy consumption during times of high demand.
Ameren gave a few methods to limit energy consumption.
- Lowering your thermostat
- Covering drafty windows and weatherizing the home when possible.
- Unplug or turn off nonessential appliances
- Reduce the temperature setting on electric water heaters.
