SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Atmos Energy officials say technicians will be positioned across West Texas to monitor natural gas systems as colder weather moves into the region.
Company representatives encouraged customers to take steps to conserve energy during periods of extreme cold, including lowering thermostats by a few degrees. Officials also warned residents not to use ovens or gas stovetops to heat their homes, citing safety concerns.
Atmos Energy also advised customers to properly maintain their natural gas appliances and protect outdoor gas meters. If meters become covered by snow or ice, residents should carefully remove the buildup and ensure all utility pipes are properly protected.

Additionally, officials stressed the importance of keeping exterior dryer vents clear. Blocked vents can lead to a buildup of carbon monoxide gas inside the home.
