Bills proposed in response to deadly gas explosion in West Reading | Pennsylvania News

Two bills in the state House that came about after a tragic natural gas-fueled explosion in West Reading are closer to a vote.

The bills came in response to the deadly blast at the RM Palmer candy factory in March of 2023.

A small remembrance ceremony was held in West Reading Monday, marking two years since the tragic R.M. Palmer factory explosion.

One bill would require owners of steam-pipes in public rights-of-way to register with the Pennsylvania One Call System.

The other would require state regulators and natural gas pipeline operators to develop ways to address threats to degrading plastic pipelines.

Committees approved the bills, which means the full House can take them up.
