Century Global Commodities Corporation said it has appointed former Newfoundland premier Dwight Ball to its board of directors where he will assume the role of vice-chair.

The Canadian politician was the 13th premier of Newfoundland and Labrador from 2015 to 2020, and was the leader of the Liberal Party from November 17, 2013, to August 3, 2020.

Sandy Chim, Century Global’s CEO, told shareholders that Ball will help oversee Century through a significant stage of development of Joyce Lake and other iron ore assets in the Labrador Trough in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec.

“With the stature of Mr Ball as former Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, he brings to the board and company an important quality in enabling us to develop our projects with the highest standard of environmental, social and governance,” Chim said in a statement.

“His experience and leadership in business also enhances the strength and reputation of the company in the mining industry. His joining the Board of the Company is a great encouragement to us and means a lot to us in recognizing us as a serious developer in the Canadian iron ore space having been in the sector and region in Canada spending over $100 million for close to 15 years,” he added.

Century Global is primarily a resource exploration and development company with a large portfolio of multi-billion tonne iron ore projects in Canada, mostly discovered by its own exploration team. It has other non-ferrous metals properties under exploration as well as a well-established food distribution business in Hong Kong.
