Delhi techie wants to quit after Rs 9 hike in 2025, no raise this year: ‘Working like a slave’

A young software engineer in Delhi-NCR has publicly shared that they want to quit the company after receiving a salary hike of just Rs 9 in 2025 and no increment at all this year. Narrating his experience on Reddit, the employee added that they have been working “like a slave” even on weekends and feel stuck in the workplace.

The engineer, who goes by Downtown_Reserve_678 on Reddit, wrote that they joined a well-known multinational company in May 2024 as an intern before being promoted to software engineer. The starting package was Rs 4.25 lakh per annum, with a significantly lower in-hand salary. They said they had accepted the offer because the job market was weak when he graduated.

According to the post, the techie is currently bound by a two-year service agreement that requires them to pay Rs 1.5 lakh if they resign early, followed by a six‑month notice period even after paying the penalty.

The Reddit user added that despite working for two years, he has seen almost no financial growth.

“My company gave me a hike of Rs 9 in the first year in my comp letter,” they said. “Then this year, they didn’t even bother to give me that Rs 9 as a hike. I have been working like a slave, going both to the office and visiting the client side for compliance. None of my expenses is covered for travel. And when I go to the main campus, a good amount in thousands is cut as a travel charge for the shuttle.”

They also claimed that after attempting to switch projects, their grade was “fled up”, leading to no pay revision.

Although he works weekends and receives compensatory offs, he wrote that he feels chronically underpaid and unable to save money. “I feel like I am stuck in a hole everyone’s taking benefit of,” he said, adding that he remains committed to quality work but feels mistreated on pay, behaviour and expectations.

In another instance of employees sharing toxic traits at their workplace anonymously on Reddit, a corporate employee has claimed that his request for a day of sick leave after developing a fever and stomach issues was allegedly denied by his manager, who claimed that “sick leave requires being hospitalised”.
