DOE approves Louisiana gas export project

The Department of Energy gave a green light Tuesday to Venture Global’s request to export liquefied natural gas to most of the world.

The final approval arrived roughly seven months after DOE granted a conditional approval to Venture Global to ship LNG to countries without a free trade agreement with the U.S.

The department said Energy Secretary Chris Wright signed the final authorization for Venture Global’s CP2 LNG project in southwest Louisiana. Wright has faced scrutiny in recent days over his relationship with the White House, according to POLITICO, though DOE has brushed aside against reports of friction.

Kyle Haustveit, assistant secretary of DOE’s Office of Fossil Energy, said in Tuesday’s announcement that the Trump administration is “redefining what it means to unleash American energy by approving record new LNG exports.”
