During the initial hours of sleet, freezing rain, and snow on the morning of Jan. 25, fewer than 30 outages were reported between Duke Energy and Blue Ridge Electric Co-Op.
As a second wave of cold weather is expected overnight, here are the latest updates on energy service providers and the number of customers affected.
Duke Energy
As of 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, Duke Energy reported 772 active outages and just over 32,000 customers without power across the Carolinas.
According to their “Outages in the Carolina” map, the highest affected areas in the Upstate are near Lake Keowee (5,000), Travelers Rest (1,000), Greer (1,000), and Spartanburg (1,000).
In a statement posted on their power outage website, Duke Energy said:
“Dangerous winter weather is still creating widespread power outages across the Carolinas,” said a recent update from Duke Energy, regarding service during the winter storm. “Thank you for your patience as we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”
Their announcement continued:
“Due to the severity of the icing and difficulties associated with poor travel conditions, crews are only beginning damage assessments where conditions safely allow. Please remain vigilant and avoid downed power lines and storm debris.”

Blue Ridge Electric Co-Op
According to Blue Ridge Electric Co-Op, as of 6:30 p.m., nearly 21,000 of its customers are without power in its service area, which stretches from the western portions of Greenville, Anderson, and Pickens counties.
In a statement posted on the Blue Ridge Electric Co-Op outages website, the latest update said:
“We work hard to keep your power on around the clock. Unfortunately, storms result in downed lines and power outages. Use these helpful resources to keep your family safe and informed, and know that during an outage, we’re working hard to restore your power as safely and quickly as possible.”

Laurens Electric Cooperative
As of 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, Laurens Electric Cooperative is reporting more than 1,300 customer outages, according to its online tracker.
According to the map, the most affected service area is within the town of Gray Court, located in Laurens County.

Greer PWD
The Greer Public Works Department outage map did not report any outages within its service area, as of Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m.

Gaffney Board of Public Works
According to the Gaffney BPW outages summary, there are no current residents within their 29340 or 29341 zip code service area without power.
Little River Electric Cooperative
According to the Little River Electric Cooperative’s outage map, 81 of its 15,000-plus members are without power as of 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 25.

Dominion Energy
As of 6 p.m., Dominion Energy’s service outage map showed 28 total customers without power due to seven separate incidents.
Their entire customer service area comprises more than 836,000 customers in Columbia, Augusta, Charleston, and Savannah.
