A metal company broke ground on a new facility in Lowndes County.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) — A metal company broke ground on a new facility in Lowndes County.

Kloeckner Metals’ groundbreaking ceremony happened on Wednesday afternoon near the Golden Triangle Regional Airport and the Aluminum Dynamics plant.

The company is investing $90 million in the project and plans to create 40 jobs.

The 222,500 square foot facility will sit on almost 32 acres, and the facility could be expanded in the future to 677,500 square feet.

The facility will work in tandem with the nearby Aluminum Dynamics plant. It’ll feature two main operations, including cutting and slicing.

Kloeckner claims this will be the most sophisticated and highly automated facility within the industry. Once trucks pull into the facility, automation will take over the process.

“We’re incredibly excited,” Kloeckner CEO John Ganem said. “This is a very strategic move for us. We’ve been on this transformation kick to move up the value chain, and when Aluminum Dynamics had made this announcement, we checked the boxes.”

Gov. Tate Reeves also attended the ceremony.

Ganem says the site should be up and running by the end of 2026, with commissioning and full production expected in the first half of 2027.
