Mike Naig is running for reelection as Iowa’s Secretary of Agriculture, seeking a third term in office.Naig was first appointed to the position by Gov. Kim Reynolds in the spring of 2018 after then-Ag Secretary Bill Northey took a job as undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Naig won the election in 2018 and was reelected in 2022. “As Secretary of Agriculture, my focus has always been on delivering results for Iowa,” Naig said in a statement. “We’ve grown markets for Iowa products, saved families money at the gas pump, expanded conservation efforts across the state, and protected the livelihoods of those who feed and fuel consumers at home and around the world. There’s more work to do, and that’s why I’m running: to keep Iowa growing.” Naig is the only Republican candidate in the race. Two Democrats, Chris Jones of Iowa City and Wade Dooley of Marshalltown, joined the race last week.
