A natural gas leak resulted in electricity being turned off for some people in Fort Dodge today. The Fort Dodge Fire Department says it was called to 1012 1st Ave. N at around 2:21 p.m. When they arrived, they found damage to a gas meter supplying a commercial building. The fire department believes it was hit by a vehicle that left the area before fire crews arrived. As a precaution, electricity was shut off for the area which affected 1,500 MidAmerican Energy customers for one hour. Fire and energy crews used underground valves to stop the flow of gas to the affected meter. The fire department says power was turned back on to all but one building within one hour. MidAmerican Energy crews repaired the damaged meter and restored services. No injuries were reported.Fort Dodge Police Department, Fort Dodge Public Works, and Region V Haz-Mat also assisted at the scene.
