
Emergency crews are dealing with a gas pipeline explosion in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, which triggered a shelter in pace at a school several miles away.
CAMERON, La. — Emergency crews responded to a natural gas pipeline explosion near Holly Beach and Johnson Bayou in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, with one operator suffering minor injuries, according to KPLC.
The pipeline exploded at the beach, south of a compressor station, the Cameron Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness reported. The fire at the Deflin LNG pipeline continued to burn as hazmat crews traveled to the scene.
The 28-mile pipeline connects to a rig offshore. Natural gas was cut off at the rig, and officials are letting the fire burn out.
Johnson Bayou High School, located approximately 6 miles from the explosion site, was placed under a precautionary shelter-in-place order. Officials said there are no off-site impacts from the explosion.
State police will investigate the cause of the explosion.
The Cameron Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness is coordinating the response to the incident.
