ND oil, natural gas production down in August | News, Sports, Jobs

North Dakota produced more than 1.153 million barrels of oil a day in August, according to the most recent report from the N.D. Department of Mineral Resources.

BISMARCK – North Dakota produced more than 1.153 million barrels of oil a day or 35,757,872 barrels in August, according to the most recent oil and gas production numbers.

Nathan Anderson, director of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, announced this past week the new numbers from August.

The oil production numbers are 0.30% above revenue forecast (RF equals 1,150,000 bbls/day) while down 0.87% from July to August and a 10,103 bbls/day decrease from July to August.

The majority of the oil production (97.4%) is from the Bakken-Three Forks Formation and the other 2.6% is from non-Bakken-Three Forks.

The state also produced 110.0 billion cubic feet (BCF) or 3.550 BCF a day of natural gas, down 0.212% from July to August.

According to the report, 31% of the state’s oil production comes from McKenzie County. The top five counties – McKenzie, Williams, Dunn, Mountrail and Divide – make up 96.2% of N.D. oil production.

In North Dakota, 28 rigs are actively drilling, up one from September. In August and July, 29 rigs were actively working in the state.

The Williston Basin (includes eastern Montana) rig count remained steady at 30, and the U.S. rig count increased to 529 from September to October.

The current price of West Texas Intermediate was at $61.66.

In September, 95 drilling permits were issued and 56 wells were completed.

The number of producing wells was at an all-time high of 19,607. In July, the state had 19,547 producing wells.

According to the report, the total number of producing wells is up 60, month over month.

Fort Berthold Reservation produced 146,596 barrels of oil a day, a 4.5% decrease, in August. Three rigs were actively drilling on the reservation. The reservation has 127 active permits, a slight decrease from last month. Currently, there’s 3,005 active wells on the reservation.

The statewide gas capture increased to 95.4% while Bakken gas capture also increased to 95.7% in August, according to the report.
