State to offer free PFAS testing for eggs and meat in East Selah | Local

The Washington State Department of Health is offering free PFAS testing for home-raised eggs and meat in East Selah on March 7.

To be eligible, residents must live in East Selah, have PFAS chemicals in their water and use the water to raise meat or eggs for themselves, their family or friends, according to a news release. The chemicals must be at a certain level to be eligible for testing.

The Department of Health will pick up meat and eggs from participants for testing and provide test results and individual health consultations on safe consumption. The deadline to register is Feb. 27. To sign up, people can contact Washington State Department of Health toxicologist Barbara Morrissey at 564-999-3485 or Barbara.morrissey@doh.wa.gov.

This is the fourth round of testing to be performed in East Selah. Previous rounds of testing found PFAS in eggs laid by backyard hens and ducks that drank PFAS-contaminated water, and in some home-raised meat. Past participants are also eligible to re-test their livestock products.
