MILTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A mobile agriculture lab has returned to Milton Elementary School, giving students a look at where their food comes from.
Principal Shannon Leggett said students explore everything from crop growth to food production.
“It’s the West Virginia Agriculture Lab, and we’re on a rotation that’s every three years,” Leggett said. “And it gives the kids an opportunity to have a hands-on approach to science as well as learn about agricultural education.”
On Wednesday morning, students learned about snacks and the difference between healthy and unhealthy fats.
They did a hands-on experiment, looking at oil and water and how they relate to the way we digest food.
Educators said it’s a lesson that sticks because students aren’t just hearing about it, they’re participating in it.
“I know that we are sending home today some information about the AG Lab,” Leggett said. “I know that they go to different areas in the county often–in fact the whole state. So, it is a great opportunity as a family to visit as well.”
The AG lab will be at Milton Elementary for the rest of the week.
