Jefferies has named new leaders of its equity capital markets team in Europe, as Rob Leach steps down for a job on the buy side.

Luca Erpici and Oliver Diehl have been promoted to joint heads of ECM for Europe, according to an internal memo seen by Financial News.

Leach, who joined Jefferies from BlackRock in December 2015, is set to return to a role as a portfolio manager and will be building a capital markets team, the memo added. The memo didn’t specify which organisation he will join and Jefferies declined to comment further.

Erpici has worked at the bank for over a decade and currently leads Jefferies’ equity syndicate desk in the region. Diehl joined from Berenberg nearly three years ago as part of a build-out of Jefferies’ German business and is based in Frankfurt.

Oliver Berwin will become head of equity syndicate in Europe.

Jefferies finished second in UK ECM last year, according to data provider Dealogic, and the unit has been a key driver of the bank’s move up the league tables in the country. It finished sixth in Europe in 2021.

Jefferies has been aggressively building out its European investment banking team, most recently hiring Gavriel Lambert from Barclays to head it’s coverage of the retail and consumer sectors in Emea.

It now has more than 80 managing directors within its European investment banking team.
