Paul Hastings hired private equity partner Tom Cartwright from rival US firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius in London as law firms continue to hunt for top private equity talent.
Cartwright has been a partner at Morgan Lewis since 2014. He was previously a partner at UK firm Taylor Wessing.
“Tom is an incredibly talented lawyer,” Paul Hastings chair Seth Zachary said in a 16 June statement.
Cartwright advises private equity sponsors, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices on investments and M&A deals.
Paul Hastings’ private equity clients include Francisco Partners, Symphony Technology Group, H.I.G Capital, Abry Partners, Oakley Capital, Insight Partners, Providence Equity Partners and Astorg.
The firm boosted revenue 20% to more than $1.5bn and profit per equity partner more than 20% to $4.7m in 2021.
“With continued investment in areas of strength including M&A, private equity and finance we are poised for continued growth,” said the firm’s London chair Arun Birla.
As competition for talent continues apace, other law firms making partner hires in London this month include Linklaters, which hired real estate finance partner Jessica Jenner from Ashurst, and Clifford Chance, which added leveraged finance partner Matt Dunn from Irish firm Arthur Cox.
Clifford Chance also saw long-standing restructuring partner Adrian Cohen exit to join US law firm Proskauer Rose.
