AI companies made up more than half of the global venture capital funding in the first half of 2025, a recent report by research firm CB Insights showed.
AI companies captured 51 per cent of total venture funding in 2025 so far, putting the year on track to end as the first one ever where AI startups claimed majority funding. In terms of number of deals, AI deals represented 22 per cent of all transactions.
Overall, AI companies raised $47.8 billion in the July-September (Q3) of 2025 across 1,295 deals.
When it comes to funding of AI firms, the US is leading the charge capturing 85 per cent of all global AI funding and 53 per cent of deals in 2025. Four of the seven largest AI rounds were from companies based in the US. Anthropic ($13 billion), OpenAI ($8.3 billion), and MistralAI ($1.5 billion) are the top three AI deals in Q3 of 2025.
Geographically, CB Insights data shows that the US recorded $38.8 billion worth of AI investment across 652 deals. Europe followed with $5.4 billion worth AI investments across 279 deals, and Asian companies secured just about $2.9 billion investment across 297 deals.
As for overall venture funding, it exceeded $90 billion for the 4th consecutive quarter, reaching $95.6 billion in Q3’25. Annual funding reached $310B through Q3’25 – the highest yearly figure since 2022. However, indicating high ticket sizes of AI investments and investors selective nature, the total deal volume of Q3 2025 fell to its lowest level since Q4’16.
