Tech start up hosts AI Competition in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) -At Groover Labs in Wichita, a new kind of competition was held on Saturday.

“Unified hosts video game competitions and now AI competitions for niche groups around the country,” said Ramsey Jamoul, CEO of Unified.

The competition on Saturday? The Wichita Regional AI Prompt Championship.

“This is a perfect opportunity for techies or just those that want to learn about AI to come and practice and learn and actually experience some new tools they may never have seen before,” Jamoul said.

The contest included challenges like making software and video games with the help of AI, but the main challenge was supplied by the Kansas Department of Commerce.

“It is a conversation that might help the Kansas Department of Labor, help find careers for new people trying to shift their job,” Jamoul said.

The winning group from the AI prompt competition wins a dinner with the Kansas Department of Commerce, where they will discuss their project and how it can be expanded to help the people of Kansas.

One person taking part in the competition was Miguel Johns, the Founder of local tech start up Milton AI.

“There’s so much talent in Wichita that people just don’t even know about,” Johns said.

Johns wants to use AI to provide more care to Kansans.

“I do not think that AI alone is powerful enough to help somebody completely change their life and lose weight and manage their diabetes,” Johns said. “You need a human support system to have that relationship, to have the accountability, and the AI can handle what I would call the grunt work, the intern level work.”

Events like this help people learn the new technologies that are all around us.

“For us, it’s about using AI to make the world a better place and to be as good with it as we possibly can,” Jamoul said, “So this is a great chance for us to explore that opportunity.”

Jamoul says he plans on bringing the event back to Wichita again next year.
