Chennai: Boosted by large transactions, private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC) investments in June 2024 cumulatively stood at $3.1 billion, though the total number of deals went down, and total amount fell marginally.According to the data tracked by Venture Intelligence, a private investment intelligence platform, 71 PE and VC deals saw investments of $3.1 billion in June compared to 78 deals fetching $3.2 billion investments in May 2024. TPG Capital’s $900 million investment in digital services firm Altimetrik and $600 million investment in Zepto are the two major investments in June. Investments in fintech Ugro Capital, logistics provider Ecom Express and eyewear brand Lenskart are other big-ticket deals in the month. Average deal size in growth ventures increased from $5 million to $7 million and average deal size in growth PE category jumped from $42 million to $92 million in May-June period.Arun Natarajan, founder, Venture Intelligence said average deal size has gone up significantly and boosted June’s total investments. “We are seeing the trend of mega transactions returning with Zepto and Altimetrik deals. Larger deals indicate the return of confidence (of investors). Linkage between public and private markets, with the opportunities for exits for PE-backed firms, will encourage more PE-VC inflow into the country. But, it is to be seen whether this trend sustains,” he said.
