Leaders of the Nagarik Oikya, a component of the Ganatantra Mancha, on Monday at a rally in Dhaka said that the Awami League government would not be able to control price hikes of the essential commodities as they were patronisers of the syndicates and the hoarders.
The leaders also demanded the restoration of democratic rule in the country and the resignation of the Awami League government at its signature campaign in front of the National Press Club, which was chaired by its president Mahmudur Rahman Manna.
The AL government is the patronisers of the syndicates who are responsible for the abnormal price hikes of the essential commodities, alleged Mahmudur Rahman Manna.
The AL government has come to power through a farcical general election, and failed to control price hikes of essentials, Manna added.
Manna also mentioned that as the holy month of Ramadan would start in the third week of March, the government patron syndicates would also increase prices of some essentials.
Manna also said that the Nagarik Oikya already held signature campaign programmes in eight places of Dhaka city.
He also announced the party’s another six-day programmes, which will be held on February 13 in front of Hosaf Tower at Malibagh, February 15 at Jatrabari crossing, February 16 at Shanirakhra, February 18 in front of Ananda Cinema Hall at Farmgate, February 17 in front of the National Press Club and February 19 in front of the Khamar Bari at Farmgate in the capital.
