Commissioners elected for Kansas Commodity Commissions

The Kansas Department of Agriculture has released election results for the five grain commodity commissions in the central region of the state.

KDA says the commissions, including corn, grain sorghum, soybeans, sunflowers, and wheat, serve the state’s ag industry by managing their crop’s research promotion and education programs, which are funded by check-off funds.

To be eligible, candidates must be a grower of the commodity in question and a resident in the state of voting age, and are elected by eligible growers in their district.

Newly elected commissioners for the Kansas Corn Commission include: Brian Baalman of Sheridan County (District 1), Dennis McNinch of Ness County (District 2) and Page Clawson of Haskell County (District 3)

Newly elected commissioners for the Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission include: Jon Berning of Scott County (District 2) and Brant Peterson of Stanton County (District 3). No candidates ran in District 1 and the seat will be appointed by the commission.

Newly elected commissioners for the Kansas Wheat Commission include: Brian Linin of Sherman County (District 1), Ronald Suppes of Lane County (District 2) and Gary Millershaski of Kearney County (District 3).

No candidates ran for Districts 1, 2, or 3 for both the Kansas Soybean Commission and the Kansas Sunflower Commission. All seats will be appointed by their respective commissions.
