Kyle Bass burned for blaming $85 room service bill from NYC hotel on Biden

A billionaire hedge fund tycoon wound up with a hearty helping of hot sauce splashed across his breakfast after he tried to blame an $85 tab — for room service at a five-star NYC hotel — on President Biden and inflation.

“Terrible Inflation milestone reached – My first $85 breakfast for one at a NYC hotel. After signing this bill, I have decided NEVER AGAIN,” Kyle Bass tweeted an hour after he ordered a tray of waffles, “heritage bacon,” orange juice and Diet Coke to his room.

In addition to including “Biden” and “inflation” hashtags, Bass tagged Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Federal Reserve in his tweet.

It is unclear exactly what hotel Bass was staying at, but internet sleuths quickly matched the menu with the famously swanky Carlyle and added a community note to the tweet.

“Items on this receipt match the menu for room service at the Carlyle Hotel, a 5-star hotel where the lowest rate on their website ranges from $954 (including a $35 breakfast coupon) to $6,244 after fees for a room tonight,” the note read.

Bass did not fare well in the comments section.

“You ordered room service in a 5 star Manhattan hotel. What were you expecting? Poor guy. I bet that broke the bank paying the $10 to have someone bring your food to you in bed,” responded former West Virginia delegate Michael Angelucci.

“It’s a hotel. It’s room service. You are a lazy drama Queen. Stay at hotels that give breakfast for free or go to a restaurant. Your privileges are showing,” commented another.

Fanning the flames was what appeared to be a mere $10.20 tip, but to be fair to Bass, an additional $15 gratuity looked to be inked at the bottom of the receipt.

“I’m pretty sure that room service at a 5-star hotel in Manhattan was always expensive,” said a third.

“Are you gonna be okay?” another inquired.

Bass, the founder of Conservation Equity Management and Hayman Capital Management, tried to defend his reaction by explaining in the comments that he’d placed his order without looking at the menu and was “appalled” when the bill came.

“I did send this earlier this morning to revolt against the craziness of hotel food pricing in NYC,” he wrote.

“I grew up lower middle class…graduated college dirt poor…and appreciate each meal to this day. The hate here was unexpected.”

He then went on to blame China for much of the negative reaction.

“Many of the accounts are Chinese disinformation accounts that smelled blood in the water.”
