RALEIGH, N.C. – Governor Josh Stein is speaking out about Duke Energy’s effort to raise prices for customers by $800 million. Duke says the electricity price hikes need to happen due to rising fuel costs. That’s on top of an already proposed 15-percent rate hike.
The governor says Duke’s proposal would shift the cost of electricity from large industrial users onto the backs of “regular people,” by sending power bills skyrocketing. The State Utilities Commission would have to approve those Duke price hikes for them to go into effect.
