In the Philippines, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has reported a decrease in prices for certain agricultural commodities including onions, and others for February. Specifically, red onions have seen a reduction in their average price per kilo, dropping from P188.37 in January to P163.11 in February. Additionally, the price for eggplants has decreased from P91.51/kilo to P86.18/kilo.
The Department of Agriculture (DA), through its Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service (AMAS), continues to closely monitor market price movements. Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa highlighted the department’s ongoing efforts in providing market interventions and facilitating marketing strategies to support farmers and ensure the availability of affordable agri-fishery products for consumers. The Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) initiative, a collaborative effort involving DA-AMAS and other government agencies, aims to offer low-cost food items by enabling direct sales from producers to consumers, thereby eliminating intermediary costs. This initiative is part of the broader Bagong Pilipinas campaign under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., focusing on comprehensive economic and social transformation.
